Resonating Reads

For me, the next two weeks = busy. Partly because of a little weekend getaway with my husband, and partly because of a big, exciting, enormously fun writer’s conference. So some of my posts are going to be short, and my responses might lag behind my normal response speed (but don’t worry, I’ll still respond).

Today’s quick thought: When is the last time you read something that resonated so loudly, that even if you never read it again, you will always remember it? And since we’re discussing when, let’s also discuss what. Share titles, please!

Mine: I was really lucky to be allowed to read Elana Johnson’sSurrender before it has actually hit bookshelves. This one really struck me for a few reasons. Mainly, I think, because it’s about people deciding for themselves what they believe is right and wrong, regardless of what society, and even their parents, insist on forcing them to do. In many ways, I can identify with the main characters, Raine, and Gunner, on a core level.

Also, I *heart, heart, heart* Gunner’s voice.

The book comes out June 5th. I highly recommend you preorder it. You won’t be sorry.

What about you? What’s your current resonating read?

I'm re-reading THE THIEF by Megan Whalen Turner and loving it. I loved it the first time (though I wasn't surprised by the first book like everyone said I would be) but reading it again is like meeting for lunch with a friend. The 2nd book (The Queen of Attolia) totally resonates with me. I've thought about it many, many times.

I'll be so happy to see you next weekend!

Ender's Game. It still resonates after dozens of readings. One I've only read once, but I think will always stick with me it The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Whoa.
